Puri: Three key terms/logo associated with Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri has received approval from the Indian Patent Office.
“We have secured patent for Ananda Bazar, Shree Patitapaban and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). We have received confirmation in this regard from the Intellectual Property India,” SJTA chief Arabinda Kumar Padhee informed on Wednesday.
Padhee further stated that approval for 26 more terms associated with the 12th-century shrine is expected soon. “The Intellectual Property India has sought detailed information on these terminologies. We are optimistic about securing patent for those terms too,” he added.
This can be seen as second win for Odisha following the removal of the word “Dham” from Digha Jagannath Temple signage. The West Bengal government initiated the process a day after its CM Suvendu Adhikari made the announcement following a letter from his Odisha counterpart Mohan Majhi, which was hand delivered by Puri MP Sambit Patra.
In May last year, the Odisha government decided to secure trademark rights for certain words and logos associated with the Puri temple amid a feud with Bengal over naming of the newly-built temple in Digha as ‘Jagannath dham’. The terms sought to be shielded included ‘Jagannath dham’, ‘Srimandir’, ‘Purushottam Kshetra’, ‘Neelachal Dham’, ‘Bada Danda’, ‘Nahaprasad’ and ‘Neela chakra’, among others.
