Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warnings for seven districts of Odisha till around 5 pm on Friday.
Moderate thunderstorms, lightning, rain with surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph may occur at isolated places in Ganjam, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack in the next 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The warning came as souwthwest monsoon advanced into several northern and coastal districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, and Balasore, aligning with normal onset timelines for Odisha, typically between June 10–15, offering hope for agricultural activities and a break from the recent hot and humid spell. Residents can anticipate increased thunderstorm activity and rainfall in the short term as the system strengthens.
