Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the Odisha Police State Selection Board (OPSSB) to relax the upper age limit for appointment of sepoys and constables by six years.
As per the case, the OPSSB had advertised for selection of candidates for appointment to 1,360 posts of sepoys and constables on September 22, 2024. The minimum and upper age limits of the aspirants were fixed as per the standard norms of the Board.
But some aspirants took exception to the upper age limit fixed by the OPSSB. They held that since no appointment was made to the two posts since 2018 and six years had passed since then, they had crossed the maximum age limit and were being deprived of participating in the selection process.
As many as 49 of such aspirants moved the High Court seeking justice. Admitting the joint petition of the aspirants, the High Court had issued a stay on the selection process.
After hearing the case, the High Court directed the OPSSB to issue a fresh advertisement by increasing the upper age limit of the candidates by six years. However, the age relaxation would be applicable only for this year’s selection, the court ruled.
