Bhubaneswar: Severe thunderstorm coupled with lightning, rain and high-velocity wind is likely to lash seven districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities, on Saturday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
In a message issued at 4.15 pm, the IMD sounded a red warning for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city), and Nayagarh districts. Lightning, light to moderate rain with wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph and hail may continue in some parts of these districts during next three hours.
Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for Kandhamal and Ganjam districts during the period.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
