Bhubaneswar: You might have heard that having a blood oxygen monitor or oximeter is a good idea in this pandemic. While dedicated monitors are more accurate for the job, you can also buy fitness bands and smartwatches that have in-built SpO2 sensors as an alternative.
A SpO2 sensor measures the blood oxygen saturation level. If the level falls below the normal 94 percent, then it can indicate that there is a lung problem – something that happens in some COVID patients. A level below 92 percent would suggest that the person is seriously ill and may need supplementary oxygen.

With wearables gaining traction in India, the biggest premium Android smartphone maker didn’t want to stay behind. Apart from dynamic Spo2 and heart rate monitoring, its band has multiple covers and is water-resistant with 5 ATM and IP68 certified.
Realme Watch
The Realme Watch has a 1.4-inch display that is dust and water-resistant. It has a heart monitor and SpO2 sensor as well as 14 different sports modes, music and camera controls, smart notifications, etc. It is priced at ₹3,999 in India. Realme also has a band with SpO2 sensor priced much lower.
Oppo Smart Band
Oppo’s latest smart band has a dynamic SpO2 monitoring system and is water resistant. It comes in two colours and is priced at Rs 2,799.
Honor 5 Band
Huawei’s Honor 5 Band has a 0.96-inch AMOLED display with SpO2 sensor, heart rate monitor, music controls, smart notification and sleep tracker. It is priced at ₹2,199. It comes in Meteorite Black, Olive Green and Coral Pink colour variants. There’s a lower Honor 5i variant that sports a TFT display and is priced at ₹1,799.
Huawei Band 4
This is a more affordable band with a SpO2 sensor and has a 0.96-inch display. It is priced at ₹1,899. It comes in Sakura Pink, Amber Sunrise and Graphite Black colours.
