Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a Revenue Inspector (RI) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the beneficiary of a government scheme.
The accused, identified as Sailabala Naik, is posted as RI at Kosaguda under Borigumma Tehsil of Koraput district. She was nabbed for taking a bribe a beneficiary under Matsya Pokhari Yojana of Fisheries Department for issuance of trace maps in his favour and other beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries had applied for subsidy assistance under the Matsya Pokhari Yojana of the Fisheries Department for fish farming activities. As part of availing the subsidy, the Fisheries Department required submission of trace maps of their respective farm ponds. Accordingly, they applied for copies of the trace maps relating to their respective lands where the ponds had already been excavated.
However, RI Naik demanded Rs 4,000/- from the beneficiary for issuance of the trace maps. Unwilling to pay the demanded bribe, the beneficiary reported the matter to vigilance authorities.
Upon receiving the information, a team of Vigilance nabbed Naik while taking Rs 4,000/- as bribe from the beneficiary. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from her.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Naik from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
