Phulbani: In another blow to Maoist insurgency in Odisha, police on Thursday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from Balliguda region of Kandhamal district.
Speaking to the media, SP Ramendra Prasad said that a search operation was launched the previous day in Gangapadar, Kodamaha, Pajimaha, Tengeri and Balimaha areas on the basis of input provided by surrendered Maoists. A self-loading rifle, two SBGL guns, a country-made UBGL gun, 30 electric detonators, and 10 SBGL grenades were among the items seized from the suspected Maoist dump. “Our combing operation and area-dominating exercise are ongoing throughout Kandhamal district,” he added.
This comes just days after a similar operation on June 9, when security forces recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition, equipment, and other articles from a Maoist dump in the dense forests of Kirmitti and Katuapadar under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district. Among the items seized were an INSAS light machine gun, two INSAS rifles, three improvised explosive devices, including one weighing 8 kg, a grenade, an AK-series magazine, 18 electric detonators, remote-controlled triggering devices, communication equipment, gunpowder, splinters, codex wire, batteries and other material used in the fabrication of explosive devices.
